The U.S. Chamber of Commerce released its quarterly Small Business Outlook Survey on Monday with some pretty grim results. The survey of more than 1,400 small-business owners revealed that an overwhelming 84 percent believed the U.S. economy is on the wrong track.Nearly 50 percent of the small-business owners cited economic uncertainty as their greatest challenge, while the U.S. debt and deficit and health-care reform were close behind, at 47 percent and 39 percent, respectively.
Forty-six percent of respondents said their uncertainty for the future is driven by the federal debt and deficit.
As far as the economy, 79 percent of respondents just want Washington to "get out of the way" and 85 percent said they'd rather Washington provide more certainty than more assistance.
Fifty-five percent of respondents cited economic uncertainty as the greatest or second greatest issue that will stop them from hiring new employees, while 34 percent said a lack of sales would stall hiring efforts.
As unemployment hit 9.2 percent in June, the small-business jobs outlook doesn't seem to improve much over the next year, with 64 percent saying they will keep the same number of employees. One bright spot: Only 12 percent plan on cutting staff, down from 29 percent last year.
With just 20 percent of respondents optimistic that American's best days are ahead, small-business owners will continue to operate cautiously, with 62 percent more fearful of what Washington will do next than what they've already done.

Lets face it, until Obama is thrown out of office this country will continue to fail..Socialism and huge goivertnment doesn't work...Impeach Obama or just force him out.
How can we be Creating So many New jobs, when we have been Going High Tech and Eliminating So many ? Utility Co's, Factories, even Cities parking Enforcement is Getting High Tech and Don't need even 50% as many People and How about the Post Office? If that isn't a Prime example of the future, I don't know what is?
They even Cut the need for Teachers by 25% by just having 1 teacher teach a Class on The Internet! To Hundreds of Classes! Around the Country! and the Unions are trying their best to stop it!
Create Something,Sell it on the Internet and make your $million bucks and then Go start another business.. That is the Future .. High Tech is Here and we were told this over 20 yrs ago..
ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT OBAMA IS ANTI-AMERICAN. HE WANTS TO SACRIFICE SMALL COMPANIES WITH HIGHER TAXES.tEH COMPANY I WORK FOR IS WILLING TO SACRIFICE MY WAGES AND ALL MY FRIENDS I WORK WITH TO HAVE MONEY.THIS IS A WRONG PRACTICE TO FOLLOW. COMPANIES ARE NOT THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT ARE HURTING THEIR EMPLOYEES ARE BEING PUNISHED FOR THE WAY THIS COUNTRY IS FALLING APART!!!2012 WE ALL KNOW WHAT HAS TO BEEN DONE. GET NOBAMA OUT OF OFFICE!!!!!!!!!
The main problem is the US government has never had to compete for corporations. Now with the fall of the Soviet Union and the capitalism movement growing larger every day in China, our government finds themselves in a position they have never been in. Corporations can go global and the US is just one market to choose from. And China has 4 times more potential customers for businesses than the US does. The US cannot treat the corporations here like ATM machines anymore. They will just pack up and leave. And who can blame them? Now let's see if we have leadership that can recognize this and make the changes required to attract business. If not, get your passport ready.
I don't trust ANYTHING that comes from a garbage, demonstrated pro-big-business, pro-corporation, anti-consumer, and politically biased organization such the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which hardly represents small businesses anymore (small fraction of its members) and uses them as cover for its own agenda. Don't suppose the writer gave any thought to checking with the more representative Small Businesses of America or similar organizations that truly represent small businesses.
Americans are still so uncertain about moving toward advanced solar themral technologies away from photovoltaics. maybe they dont want to use too much aluminium which is a very big part of solar thermal energy. We are not certain about living with higher aluminium prices that can happen if we move toward solar thermal energy. We want to keep aluminium prices so cheap so that other big iindustrial users lke Boeings, General Electtrics, Ford Motors dont have to lose money . We are so uncertain ,still..
LET THEM EAT CAKE !
DEMOCRATS/GOP HAVE POISONED AMERICA !
Pay $ 100 Trillion in DEBT and Accruals ?

Direct sales are another option for people to consider. I am a Pampered Chef consultant who just got back from our annual national conference in Chicago. I had no idea how many thousands of people are making a nice salary doing what I do. The "Today Show" (view on the Money section of the Today Show website)just did a segment on direct sales companies which featured one of our own constultants doing her cooking show.
Yea, I have a business and we had 138 people and now I am down to just 45 since Obama got elected, I am holding out for someone that actually knows what they are doing, as Obama is so much a joke, I cant stop laughing as I had out pink slips, and I do get rid of Obama supporters and let them know, he and their support for him is the reason I let them go and yes they were all black. Now they can wallow in their change and I will replace with older white males when the economy rebounds
They said on Fox last week, Obama people have been going to Wall St. to try and get the economy going, but apparently Wall St. said they're not doing anything untill Obama's out of office. So much for socialism. You can't have your cake, and eat it too.
As a small business owner, I'm certainly NOT doing any hiring and/or expanding as long as Obama & his anti-business cronies are in office. He & his administration are loose cannons when it comes to over-regulation, mandatory health coverage/non-participation fees, expanding entitlements & government, more & higher taxes. This provides me absolutely NO faith that this administration offers a stable business climate. I DO, however; have faith that as soon as he's out of office in 2012, we'll see a dramatic turnaround in the economy & hiring will once again become the norm.
We need to start impeaching congress and the senate, there not there half the time anyway and when they are they cant, wont work for us
Obama is the perfect example of the "Peter Principle" I suspect he reached his full potential as a "Community Organizer" He should resign now and return to his position in Chicago where they deserve to have him!!!
I am also a Small Business owner & worker. I don't know about the rest of you all but I never had a job or contract working for a poor man & never will. Rather you like it or if you tax the rich more thats money they don't spend on jobs or projects they have that they hire Small Businesses to do, which means the economy goes down even more. Look it up I don't know the exact precentages but around 70% of the econmony is based off of Small Business that have anywhere from 1 to 10 employees, 80% of those Businesses work for the rich private land owners. Start punishing the rich for working & becoming wealthy & you will be punishing all the way down the chain rather you like it or not. LAST of all, we do hire LEGAL hispanics, something we said we would never do however, they work harder than any body I have ever had on my job site and we pay them just as much as we pay anyone else that comes onto our job. They get the job b/c they are willing to WORK plain and simple! I get really sick and tired of hearing people complain about the hispanics coming in and "taking" your jobs,.. they get it because they work & most Americans won't, they'd rather sit back on thier gravy train & have the working people of this country give them a free ride.
