In recognition of Mother's Day on May 8, Verizon is holding a contest to discover the Hardest Working Small Biz Mom. The contest, which launched on April 29 and runs through May 22, is open to mothers across America who run their own businesses and are Verizon or Verizon Wireless customers. To enter, contestants need to submit a brief video (not to exceed two minutes) or a blog post (maximum 325 words) that describes a day in the life of their business and motherhood. "We want the many mother entrepreneurs we have to tell us more about what they're doing, how they're doing it, and what it really takes to run a business and a family," Mary Yarbrough, vice president of business marketing, said in a statement.
The grand-prize winner will receive $5,000 and a year of free cleaning services valued at $2,400. Verizon will also select a second-prize winner, who will receive a free iPad and $1,000 prepaid gift card, and a third-prize winner, who will receive a $500 prepaid gift card. Verizon has produced two short videos announcing the contest, and another instructional video about how contestants can upload their own videos for entry. Verizon plans to run a similar contest for entrepreneurial fathers next month, timed with Father's Day.
