More small businesses are purchasing tablet PCs and finding them useful for running their business. Techaisle, a global IT market research and analyst firm, recently conducted a SMB Mobility Adoption and Trends Report and found that a total of 8.87 million tablet PCs are being used by small to midsize businesses in the United States. Based on the total sales of tablet PCs, Techaisle estimated that approximately 50 percent of those purchased by consumers are also being used for business.Techaisle surveyed 1,356 SMBs and found that the Apple iPad was the dominant choice of tablets among very small businesses. However, Google's Android operating system (OS) had a strong usage rate among larger small businesses. Overall, 64 percent of SMBs said they are single OS adopters.
The survey also indicated that businesses in the health-care and financial-services industries were early adopters of tablet PCs at work. Of those respondents who use tablets in the office, the survey found that they are primarily used in corner offices and executive suites, although small businesses said they plan to expand usage among employees. According to the survey, wider adoption rates in the office depends upon the industry a small business is in and the availability of apps supporting that line of business.
Seventy-one percent of SMBs surveyed said they are using tablets as an additional device at work rather than as a replacement to their main computer. When it comes to future tablet purchases for business, 77 percent of those who already own a tablet said they plan to buy another one for their business in the next 12 months.

It is difficult to type full sentences, let alone complex documents on a tablet. iPad does not support Word, Excel, etc. and regardless you cant type on tablets as just stated.
Also, you cannot easily load photos, do powerpoint or open these programs!
Last, many sights will not open on Apples (Flash, Abobe, many PDFs). Tablets are TOYS. Of course we all appreciate Business writers who worship Apple and Jobs creating hype for them but we are not as stupid as you seem to seem to think (We being the great unwashed masses).
Why do I want a tablet? It costs much more for the wireless needed to run one (which is MUCH less dependable than my wired DSL) and it does not have all the functionality of my desktop.
what's the big deal -- so many have said for so long that the toilet seat is cleaner than their desktop that I'm seeing more people eat their lunch in the head instead of at their desks! (yeah right, like these germaphobes merit listening to!)
Snot screens, Nasty germ spreading shared office tools. If everyone is not a compulsive hand washer in the work place these screens will spread colds and the flu like nothing else.
The current tablets are an evolutionary step. Full computing and access will become a reality when
an open platform OS becomes the insdustry standard. Until then it is more of the "Cool" factor than functionality that sells these devices.
Ever since I purchased the 1st IPAD my business at pogostickusa.com has grown 63% in just the
last 6 months. I would be lost without it. It simply has made us the dominant distributor of pogo sticks in the U.S.
