This is the year for Bethenny Frankel, the former Real Housewives of New York reality-star-turned-entrepreneur. The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that Frankel's Skinnygirl brand, the low-calorie ready-made cocktail line she launched in 2009, was acquired by Fortune Brands' Beam Global, a major player in the spirits market, which manufactures brands such as Jim Beam bourbon and Sauza tequila. The actual amount of the deal was undisclosed, however, the Journal reports that the Skinnygirl Margarita ranked fourth in sales of ready-to-drink cocktails in food, drug and liquor stores in the 13 weeks ending Feb. 5, according to market researcher Nielsen Co. Revenue for Skinnygirl was also undisclosed, but Beam Global said sales of the product, which retails for $14 to $15 a bottle, have topped 100,000 cases a year.
With the acquisition, Beam Global hopes to capitalize on the emerging market of low-calorie liquor. Frankel's Skinnygirl Margarita boasts just 100 calories per four-ounce serving. According to the terms of the deal, Frankel will remain heavily involved in the direction of the company and will continue to promote the product and work to expand her line of low-calorie cocktails under the Skinnygirl brand name.
Frankel, who got her own reality show on Bravo last year called Bethenny Getting Married about her journey to marriage, is currently starring in its second season, named Bethenny Ever After. The season so far tracks her busy life as a newlywed, mom, and now budding entrepreneur. In a recent episode of the show, Frankel admitted to having challenges with distribution for Skinnygirl, and the episode followed her as she figured out the adjustments she needed to make to the business model. Currently, the product has distribution at select independent liquor stores throughout the United States and is also sold at Costco. With the acquisition, Beam Global hopes to build on the already explosive growth of the brand and help to expand its distribution along with introducing other drinks under the label.
"To us, this is the beginning of what we hope will be a very big category," Bill Newlands, president for North America for Beam Global, told the Journal. "We think [Skinnygirl] is a tremendous platform to put other premium, convenient, low-calorie products on the market."

good for you?
It's so ridiculous when people talk so negatively about others. What a boring world we would live in if everyone looked like Barbie. Get over yourself!!
I don't care...to me she still look's like Jim Carrey in How The Grinch Stole Chhistmas......a little green make up and she nails the part with out all that time in the make up chair poasting on prostetichs.
looks like she drinks alot wohoo
What have YOU done???
This NOBODY has everyone snowed.
Are we watching the same show? Bethanny has NEVER put herself up to be anybody other than she what she is; a woman strugging to overcome a traumatic chidhood, the fear of not reaching her her true potential and the everywoman fear of being alone and possibly childless. She unlike the other New York housewifes who wil remain nameless, Jill,Kelly,Ramon and the "Countess" stayed true to herself. If she messed up she owned up. She knew when to apoliize and when to stand up for herelf. What have you done with the cards life has dealt you? From my perspective she made a royal flush. Can you say the same? I'm betting oh let;s say NO.
I disagree that she's a "NOBODY." She scored...bottom line and she didn't snow anyone. She also has comedic timing which helped launch her drink. It worked. I hope she continues to take to the next level.
Hmmm, sounds like JEALOUSY to me!!
This "Nobody" has a beautiful new baby girl; a loving, devoted, husband; AND
, a popular TV show; fame; more moxie and chutzpa than ALL of you put together; AND a successful business!!
I wish you ALL the best Bethenny!!!
Bethenny is the best. She is a beautiful person inside and out!! She became a successful business woman while being on tv!! So what. I would love to meet her and hug her just to tell her that I love what she is. With my childhood being similar to hers I idol who she made if her life!!
I do watch the show but often wonder how long Jason can put up with all of Bethenny's emotional traumas, always crying about her childhood and not really understanding how Jason wants his parents to be a bigger part of Bren's, and their lifes. To me, Bethenny should be SO THANKFUL that Jason's parents are so loving and want to really bond with Bren and Bethenny. Jason is an adorable, wonderful, handsome, great daddy, etc, etc. I just hope he can hang in there.
You obviously don't pay attention because she has adjusted beautifully to married/family life. She loves her in-laws and they adore her. The Christmas they had in LA during the "Skating with the Stars" finale did you conveniently forget when Jason told her, during that crazy ride with "Santa" that his family hasn't had much happiness in a very long time and she brought such happiness to him and to his parents. Don't be such a biatch. Your jealousy is showing and it isn't pretty. Try working on your on life - my guess is you aren't perfect. It must be terrible to be so negative and jealous. Hey - I have a great idea - why not try coming from "A Place of Yes"!!!
I LOVE Bethenny! She reminds me sooo much of myself! She really goes after her dreams! I would love to meet her, any chance of her coming to St. Louis?
Go girl! Bethany is such a role model for being yourself and just owning it. When others condemned her for her personality she just forged ahead and followed her heart. That's what following your instincts and being incredibly savy looks like at it's best. (Not to mention a little bit of luck to have found such an amazing husband!) Congratulations Bethany on being able to enjoy the fruits of your labor, and thank you for your gut wrenching honesty and humor. What a breath of fresh air!
I think she done pretty well. She took a popular drink and made a lite version of it (I have tried and failed ever to find the drink in a store), but good luck to her! I have to disagree from my point of view about her being amusing, she has a real mouth on her which is really annoying. I no longer watch her show because it's too much, her husband deserves a medal for living with it. True, the baby is really cute though......
yes, i do like bethanny a lo and she has got a serious clue re branding in the media age, but she has GOT to get over her control/emotion issues, quick - many women can indeed relate, but it's time to get at the root of it and mature and no man, no matter how wonderful, can or will deal with it forever.... but, for sure, impressive and best wishes for sure
Bethany has done pretty well for herself I am so happy that she cut the housewife of new York and focus on her family and career because there are hater even among your circle friends. I do wish her the best and ask the lord to protect her And her family. P.s. Berthany your baby is so gorgerous, there is no doubt that is Jason baby. God bless.
Is it true that Skinny Girl us coming out is smaller sizes? I have wanted to try it but would like a
taste test size. Also, any other things under the brand? LOVE YOU! I was waiting for a
baby annoucement------------------------
I haven't read the book but perhaps there are some details in there? If you have a great idea and you need investors, if you keep true to the intention and believe in yourself, the right opportunities will come into your life (a lot of it is perspective and attitude ... when you expect help and good things, that's what you see; when people expect the world to work against them, they see that everywhere). I am a success coach and I can tell you that embracing what comes your way is really important. It's not always easy to see the "why" behind something the moment you're in it, but later, you'll look back and realize that every little thing you embraced actually was a piece of the puzzle. Also, if she goes on tour again, she does a live Q&A with the audience and does answer all the questions.
Bethenny,
can we contact you and how? I would love to know how did you build your business and if you can give me some insight. I have a few ideas but I don't have the investors to help build the business ideas...how did you do it "without" any money, as you stated in one of the interviews "you had no money, and you lived in 700 square feet apartment at that time"....so how did you do it? who invested in your idea? I'm pretty sure there has to be a big investment in order to launch any type of niche/business. I guess we'll just stare at tv and think why can't we implement and launch our niche ideas to get where you all are.....
