A A AAT&T, PepsiCo and UPS are among America's top corporations when it comes to creating opportunities for women business owners. In conjunction with National Women's History Month in March, the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) announced its annual list of America's Top Corporations for Women's Business Enterprises, which honors companies that have conducted a high volume of business with women-owned enterprises. According to the WBENC, the honored corporations have developed programs that create level playing fields for women business owners competing for corporate contracts.
The list names 20 companies, including Accenture, Dell, IBM, Coca-Cola Company and Verizon. Energy Future Holdings, UPS and AT&T have made the list every year since the WBENC started it 12 years ago, and Avis Budget Group and Chevron have received the recognition 11 times. "Our Top Corporations are the pillars of our economy by driving and standing behind their vital business partnerships with women's business enterprises," Linda Denny, president and CEO of WBENC, said in a statement.
WBENC is one of the nation's main third-party certifiers of businesses owned and operated by women. Currently, 10,500 women-owned businesses have received certifications from the organization.
