Droid does: A look at some of the best Android apps. The numbers are looking good for Android phones. Research group Gartner found that Google's Android operating system captured more than 25 percent of smartphone sales in the third quarter of 2010, beating out Apple's iOS, which logged in about 17 percent of the market. A good chunk of those Android phones have found their way into the eager hands of business users. That makes business-related apps a hot commodity.

The Android marketplace doesn't break down apps into a strictly business category, but the "Productivity" category is a good place to look. Here are five paid apps that have been topping the charts recently.

1. SwiftKey Keyboard. Thumb typing will never match the speed of a full-size keyboard, but you can hurry things up with TouchType's text prediction app. SwiftKey learns your writing style on the fly and works by predicting what the next word will be as you hammer out emails. It also steps in with some grammar and spelling corrections to help save you from embarrassing typos. ($3.99)

2. DocumentsToGo Full. Fifteen bucks may be expensive when it comes to mobile apps, but there's a good reason business users are willing to shell out for this full version of DataViz's Documents to Go. The app can open Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint files for viewing, but the editing capabilities are what really make it sing. Mobile warriors can leave behind the laptop and still make those last-minute document changes. ($14.99)

3. Root Explorer File Manager. Android tinkerers have pushed this SpeedSoftware app up into the top list. It's a powerful file manager that opens access to all the files that are tucked away on your phone. This isn't really for casual users who don't want to dig under Android's skin. Just be careful to back up your phone first and try not to delete something important. ($3.99)

4. Exchange by TouchDown Key. The priciest entry on the list is this NitroDesk app that hooks your Android phone up with your Exchange server for e-mail, contacts, calendar and tasks synchronization. Pair it up with DocumentsToGo and you will have most of your Microsoft-related business necessities covered. ($19.99)

5. Pure Calendar. It makes sense to harness your Android phone as an organizational assistant. Pure Calendar is a widget that plays nice with several popular agenda and tasks services, including Google Calendar and Astrid. The biggest improvement over the built-in Android calendar widget is that Pure, made by Francois Deslandes, lets you customize to your heart's delight. ($2.05)
