Today marks the first day of Global Entrepreneurship Week, which includes thousands of events for 10 million entrepreneurs, industry experts, policymakers and politicians in 102 countries. GEW celebrates innovation and creativity and helps entrepreneurs develop the knowledge, skills and social networks to help them grow sustainable businesses. In the United States, there are a few featured events, including Startup Open, a competition for the 50 "most promising startups." Five of these startups will be selected as winners and rewarded with tools to help them grow their businesses, including a visit to a high-growth boot camp at Kauffman Labs in Kansas City, Mo. One of these entrepreneurs will win a trip to Sir Richard Branson's Necker Island.
And for America's young entrepreneurs, there's the Movers and Changers challenge, a joint effort between mtvU and NYSE to find and help finance one young innovator's business idea.
Global Entrepreneurship Week was co-founded in 2008 by the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and Enterprise UK. The event runs from Nov. 15-21, 2010.
