Kids say the darndest things. And now a North Carolina restaurant has had enough.

Olde Salty's, a seafood restaurant in Carolina Beach, N.C., has caused an uproar with a sign posted in its window that reads, "Screaming Children Will NOT Be Tolerated!"

"All we're asking is that if your child starts to act up, take him or her outside until he or she calms down," said Jeremy Dunn, an Olde Salty's cook.

While the sign has actually been up for six months, the issue came to the forefront after a patron recently claimed discrimination because her son has autism. The news was picked up by parenting blog babble.com and gossip provocateur Perez Hilton, who blogged,
"We don't think it's so bad. Who wants to listen to a kid throwing a tantrum while sitting down for a nice meal?!"

Dunn, who said his niece is also autistic and understands that acting out can come with the disability, disagrees with the recent criticism. He said if a child -- whether autistic or just plain temperamental -- continues to act up, the courteous thing to do is take your food to go, pay the bill and leave the restaurant, so as not to disrupt the meals of other patrons.

Dunn said Olde Salty's has had "maybe three or four people who think what we're doing is not right, but for the most part, business has been pretty good." He added that a diner's meal should not be ruined by a screaming child whose parent is "too lazy" to take the kid outside.
