We must first develop means of oversight for our current social healthcare plans, Medicaid and Medicare, which are rife with graft, corruption and abuse. Unless and until we can form and implement the proper procedures for effective oversight of these programs, we have no hope of trying to take on nationalized healthcare. We need to start 'small' with these programs first - if we can't lift a five pound weight (Medicaid and Medicare), we have no business even thinking of lifting a hundred pound weight (nationalized healthcare).
Any Federal healthcare plan should be a bare-bones minimum plan. First of all, it should be for citizens only. No more freebies for illegals who run over here with everything from antibiotic resistant TB, AIDS, cancer, or malaria and expect U.S. citizens to foot the bill. Secondly, people should be expected to take responsibility for their own health. Morbid obesity, smoking, drinking to excess, and using illicit drugs should be taken into consideration, since these conditions/activities are known to have severe health consequences. (That is, unless the individuals affected choose to deal with these situations themselves - by losing weight, stopping smoking, going to rehab for drugs or excessive drinking. Programs should be made available to all to effect health improvement). Risky sports and other activities (such as riding a motorcycle without a helmet) should also be taken into consideration for their possibility of causing injury or death. Or, a caveat can be provided - people can participate in risky activities, but they will foot the bill themselves if injured during the activity.
Also, doctors should NOT be held responsible in any way for patients' refusal to take prescribed medications as directed or for their negligence in not reporting troublesome side effects or lack of improvement of their condition. Basic federal standards should be set for the diagnosis and treatment of all known diseases, and doctors should NOT be sued for malpractice unless it can be PROVEN that they deviated from said standards to such a degree as to cause harm to the patient. A tribunal of senior doctors in the basic fields of medical study should be formed to work in conjunction with the courts to judge matters of medical interest.
Simple Solution. The interwoven fabric of our health care system is fundamentally sound and is simply too large to dismantle and institute a new system. Why not simply limit the yearly cost of care per American to the $2,500,000,000,000 we already spend, this would allocate approximately $8,333.00 per American. All payments paid for health care would be paid thru a payroll deduction much as social security is collected and by capping the money insurance company collect; they would have to keep Americans more healthy to keep there profit margins up. There is more than enough profit in the system to insure all Americans and do away with preexisting conditions and life time medical caps. Its not the care we receive, its the strangle hold the health care industry has on Americans. The quickest and easiest way to solve our heath care system is to let the system fix itself.
Since the 1970s Healthcare has been turned into a business. Business requires profit. Take "business" out of health care and prices will stabilize. Set up a system wherein the ranks of physicians are drawn from the ranks of nurses, physician assistants, etc. The federal govt funding the schools and controlling where these graduates are sent to practice in payment for said education, something along the line of the public health service only more strictly enforced.
Limit the liability to the doctors! There should be a cap on lawsuits. The malpractice insurance is causing the escalation in prices. Doctors are having tests performed to avoid liability, not necessarily to treat the patient.
fixing it is relatevely easy, cut costs and make em transparent for all:
1.)25% of all costs are clerical, meaning related to insurers using different codes and fighting each and every bill. 2.)cap lawsusits to a max $-amount TBA as 10% of costs are related to these respectively insurance rates to cover against them. 3.)make Dr's bills transparent; for example in dentistry Dr's charge $3000 per crown but labs only charge that doc $100- from china, where 30% of all crowns are comming from, even much much less!!! NOTHING justifies this kind of a $2900 profit margin!on the other hand there are fantastic Dr's which do good work and where these fees are justified, but they can't differentiate themselves from these bloodsuckers- litterally 4.)turn insurances into a public service and not a money making scheme at the costs of the general population to make shareholder rich!
reduce welfare by 50% to make it uncomfortable to not work and have babies. Use this money to help people who have no insurance. Simple and basic health care for everyone is good but there are not enough resources for the most expensive care for all. It is a fact of life!
IT AIN'T BROKE! IT DOESN'T NEED FIXING!!!!!!!!
America was not built on Socialistic Principles. You don't work, you don't eat. If you are down and out, help is optional, not required of those that do work. If you are illigal, you're screwed. Unless I want to contribute to your welfare. ("I Want To") If you don't want to work, you dont' have to eat, and you might die in the street. Get over it or understand it, but don't expect me to foot the bill for you. Results.....Lower Health Care Costs, Lower Tax's, Better Country.
Now, for all those "thats not right" people out there that feel "We" should help them, drain yourself dry, but quit draggin my ass down with you. I'll contribute to those charities I want to, when I want to, when I can afford to. Don't force me to live up to your ideals and what you believe to be right. I'm entitled to believe in what I believe in too. That is what America is all about. Freedom of choice, freedom to believe, or not believe. Nuff said.
How to fix Health Care: I've Identified 3 reasons we pay too much. Many of the posters have mentioned "tort reform" I couldn't agree more.
The next issue is unions. Unions have ruined industry after American industry. Look at Flint Michigan. Did the big three abandon the city because they wanted to or did union wages and demands force there hand. ( I hear the non-union manufacturers are still alive. Sure the argument could me made that the union ones still operate but keep in mind that their retirement programs have or area bankrupting them )
The Same thing is what causes the hospital to charge so much for stupid stuff like band-aids.
Next: the amount of fraud is mind numbing. There needs to be much more over site. Not governmental over site but private over site. Congress has a mechanism to oversee them thus avoiding "unions".
The system in perefct. The administrators leave much to be desired. Get rid of them. One by one. The perefction of the system takes over.
this is how dumb obama is. the country didnt need his marxist/communist healthcare stupidity. all he had to do was allow the 1600 healthcare insurance providers compete in every state. that would make the cost drop like a stone. its called free enterprise. OH THATS RIGHT BEING A COMMUNIST HE IS AGAINST THAT CONCEPT. i cant wait for the mid-term congress to be seated. thats when it will be repealed. JOIN GRASSFIRE.ORG
A business is a business, and consumers are consumers........oh, at least until it comes to digitsl service providers.....insurance companies and.......of course.....healthcare.
Healthcare, if not totally raped by insurance companies, the judicial system, scam artists and fraud, would BE affordable.
Medical school is the first culprit, hospital intern and residency programs are the next.....innefective and beligerant labor models are next....minimal penalties with full retail legal fees skimming money are next....and the list goes on and on....the patients don't stand a chance, when disfuction is afoote from every conceiveable angle.
To sum up......the only problem with healthcare, are the people IN healthcare, and the people who suck money out of it with fraud, trickery, cunning and deceit.
From easy to find reports, you can see that a high percentage of lawsuits are from hospital employees cleaning thing correctly, including themselves. Go into a hospital anywhere, and snoop around to listen to and watch the line level employees....most of them are disgusting, and appear to be no more professional than a fast food worker....
BigBiz is destroying America! Sorry Goobers! Wall street and the Banks are RESPONSIBLE for 80%, thats 8 out of 10 situations of ripping off American citizens in mortgage fraud! Thats Big Biz screwing us over! NOT the government! The healthcare industry is BigBiz! They are passing on more unecessary raises in cost, NOT the government! Get it straight! LOL!
A. Have the US Government pay their 5 billion debt to health care. This will alleviate 3/4's of the problems and stop blaming the low economical populations.
B. Terminate and hold the physicians accountable for their irresponsible errors instead of the nurses and other personnel. Get rid of the bad apples. For example, A doctor amputating the wrong limb and the patient receives $500,000 does not replace the limb. The patient will go through life with the mental trauma of the error by the physician. However, the bad limb stills have to be amputate and another surgery and cost for the patient. I would not be charge for a mishap by a physician, Hell, no. How would the physician like to live life with no arms and/or legs? There will not be financial assistant in life by the wrong doings of an incompetent physician.
C. Lawyers - the lawyers are pigs who do not care about the patients and the wrong doings of the physicians. They are caring about 1/3 of the money they will receive from the winnings and more from the hidden charges. Put a limit on the lawyers fee to 20%, which includes all documents copies and office crap and no hidden fees. Bring them down to reality and stop placing them on the peddler stool by giving them outrageous salaries for spending 4 hours on a case minimal and going after large cases.
D. Mediators - without law degrees should be use as the first step to settle a reasonable amount of financial, medical support and apology from those who were involve of the incident. Keep the Lawyers out and the lawsuit trucks will be decrease.
A reasonable financial settlement means to cover expenses for the insult that occur by the fault of the hospital or physician or medical personnel and/or one or more them who contribute to the insult.
E. Medical inflation rate should not rise higher than a reasonable rate for their material and products. The investment of USA manufactories should be use to develop the medical supply at a reasonable cost.
F. The government pays their bills to the health care; the medical society will do a major renovation in the system and creating new programs for the elderly, low economic population, teens and children, minorities and chronic diseases.
G. Society has to do their part of participation in exercise, eating healthy, seeing the medical physician at least once a year if not ill and understanding about medicine overall as well as medicine is a science not a cure.
Recreations, Exercise Parks, Fitness Clubs, Community Activities, and more should be install by the cities and States.
Only can lead the horse to water but cannot make a horse drink.
Take responsibility for your own health except heredity one cannot change.
DITTO ON NOT PAYING FOR THE ILLEGALS HEALTH CARE. THAT WOULD REALLY LOWER THE COST FOR ALL HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS.
Write your congressman.
write your senator.
write your president.
write your representative.
volunteer at nursing homes, hospitals etc.,
Then share what you learn to make health care better.
Maybe if we had listened to the Republican suggestions we would not be asking this question.
We need to repeal and reaplace this monstrosity of a bill that is nothing more that a big government power grab.
We need to open the markets across state lines to be able to purchase healthcare at affordable prices. We need to work on limiting liability and have healthcare portability. It is unconstitutionoal to FORCE people to purchase insurance. There needs to be an insurance overhaul that encourages prevention. We need to provide education to the citizens so that they make healthy choices. For the people who make poor choices, there needs to be consequenses. Just like purchasing life insurance. It cost more if you smoke or are overweight. And charity care must be limited. We must stop supporting illegals by giving them free healthcare. We must comprehend the word illegal. It has a meaning.
The ulimate goal of this administration is to make life so complicated, expensive and burdensome that we MUST go to Uncle Sam for help and the single payer system..thus giving them the power and losing the most precious give we have...

Tort reform would lower liability insurance which would lower medical costs. We should also enact a law that would discourage frivolous law suits. If the person/party or organization who brought the suite looses, they have to pay court expenses including defence legal expenses!
IF THE GOVERMENT TAKES OVER THE HEALTH INSURANCE AND ALL THE LOANS AND GET RID OFF THE BANKS, NOT ONLY WOULD SAVE THE PEOPLE BUT OLSO THE U.S.A.
I have several friends in Europe (England, Sweeden) and they are very happy with their health care system. Maybe we should take a lesson from our friends across the pond.
Recently, I went to a chiropractor and part of my therapy involved a stim. unit. They billed my insurance for $359. for the same unit I could have picked up at a medical supply store or ordered from the web for $49.00. Amazing. When I confronted the doctor about that...I was told that they have "insurance codes" to use and that is what is allowed if they obtain the unit and show the patient how to use it. Had I known all of that beforehand, I would have ordered the unit and READ THE MANUAL. I hate that the system rips off the insurance and they in turn rip off the patient. The entire systems "sucks" (pardon the language). Also, when you need it the MOST (usually in your golden years) you end up with the least coverage at the most expensive premiums, even though you've paid in a lifetime of fees. Sometimes I think one is better off coming into the US via the boarder....they get everything, immediately and for NOTHING. What have they put into the system? Let's make some MAJOR changes that will be in favor of EVERY CONTRIBUTING AMERICAN.
