A A AStarting your own business is a noble -- not to mention exciting, rewarding and often crazy -- undertaking. The experience is an adventure, to say the least, and no two entrepreneurial paths are exactly the same, whether they result in fame and fortune or just a few hard knocks.
There are an estimated 27 million small businesses in the United States. And 27 Million and Counting is our attempt to capture as many of these unique, only-in-America success stories as we can. The premise is simple -- we give entrepreneurs 60 seconds to share their stories, in their own words. We hope they will inspire, inform and maybe make you laugh. This is Matt's story.

Im thinking of leaving my job of 21 years. I have alot of rooute sales experience. How do I go about starting my own business?
Buddy, Buddy, Buddy. If you have to ask how to start your own business, you are WAY not ready to quit your job.
Thats nice and it sounds great but 75% of start-up businesses fail within the first two years. You need financing, a marketing plan, and a Plan B if the business fails. You need to research your business and do the background work to determine the possibility of success. You cant just 'jump in.'
It's only possible if you have a viable plan with something you are very good at doing, such as the speaker is with marketing.
Sorry for ruining the statistics for you, personally I've started and closed half a dozen (more if you count the less than full time ones). I've never dumped savings or financed anything, a person or two would notice I was good at something and the hoards would follow as word of mouth spread. I gave up two because others soon followed suit and business began to dry up, the other 4 times the business owned me and I sold off to return to hourly. Some day I'll get it right, but if I went in with a specific plan, none of them would have got off the ground.
dude

Looks like AOL Small Biz's gave many posters a gift today by giving ppl such as #1 & 2 a place to post their "ADS"! You know those "Ads" most of us hate to see while trying to reply to a story!! LOL I hope they ALL flock here and STAY!!!! That would make being on the net a great experience everyday for me and I'm sure for many others!! So THANK YOU *AOL Small Biz's. At least for 1 day, you gave them somewhere else to go!!! :D
P.S. *IVAN, I've learned 1 thing and that is... ANYTHING work or biz related that says "money back guarantee" means it IS A SCAM!!! What a shocker eh?? LOL
I am starting my own business in Orlando,Fl. The company I am working with is training me, paying for my licenses and providing excellent tools for me to be successful. The great thing about is I am able to build my business as a part time position. The pay is great and I can work as little or as much as I want since it's my own business. I intend to leave my current position with in the year and open my own office. As for he start up cost $99 and they provide a tried and true business model to follow. The Regional VP who is training me started three years ago after his construction business slowed to a halt. This company's mission is to help families become debt free and financially independent.
It would be great if you shared your company's information so that others of us can start a business as well.
his customers must be pretty STUPID if they can't do the job that he is doing for them! (but, good for him!)
I have been trying to start an ecommerce on line business for about 4 months, but can't find a legitimate wholesale/.dropshipper for small kitchen appliances, most have club paying membership with very little to offer, but one day gemini appliances.com will prevail.
Do your best and put your heart into it, treat people fair and keep it simple. Make
mistakes lots of them
and quickly learn from them. You will succeed! Remember it's not how
many times you are hit it's about how many times you get up and keep on fighting for what you want!
Kenny Nash here..... recording artist/song writer... hey guy what kind of business did you venture into that you lost your butt on bud? I own a few ATM machines myself and they pay me great. You may want to try this business. The start up is minimal and the pay is great. I also still write music and record . I would love to start my own company...problem is, i dont like what I do and have no idea what to do. Would have been so much easier if I knew before graduating. Sometimes I wonder how accounting is rewarding to anyone.
I took a big risk, listened to one of these guys on a comment and followed their BS website. Now I make 1 billion dollars a day. Thank God for get-rich-quick trolls!!!
BOY HAVE YOU GOT IT RIGHT AND I HOPE YOU HAVE A HAPPY LIFE BECAUSE YOU SEE BEYOND THE WOLF IN SHEEPS CLOTHING.
Congratulations on your success Wishing further good luck to you and your family. I hope you understand that this goes against what Barack Obama wants for us citizens! He is spending our kids futures and our Grandkids futures as well, all in the name of Wealth Redistribution...So, I don't think He will be sending you a Congratulatory note...In fact, He will want you to share your good fortune with a couple of million "have not's", who sit around and wait for hand-outs!
