Pimp Your iPad: A Look at the Coolest iPad Accessories

Apple has sold more than 2 million iPads worldwide. Now that you've got your hands on the supertablet, isn't it time to accessorize?

Maybe you got your hands on a new iPad and a snazzy case to go with it. That's a good starting point. But it looks a little underdressed for the occasion. Like something is missing. Maybe you're not accessorizing properly. Perhaps a keyboard, stylus, or car mount would do the trick.

iPad add-on makers are tripping over themselves in the rush to market. Everyone wants to be the first or the best or just simply the most popular. We're still early on when it comes to accessories, but that shouldn't stop you from loading up with a few handy iPad items from beyond the usual case and bag suspects.

Just look at the rainbow of iPad cases already available from third-party manufacturers, and you'll get an idea of where the accessories market overall is headed. As iPad fans find pain points in using the device, these companies will step up with solutions. There's already a good crop of devices for propping up the iPad for easy viewing. Keep an eye out for some add-ons from the more creative side of the spectrum.

iTee and iDress

Price: about $40 for iTee and $75 for iDress

Put some new life into casual Fridays with one of the oddest iPad accessories to show up on the scene. From Australian designer iClothing, these T-shirts and dresses include a built-in padded iPad holder -- like a kangaroo. They'll ship internationally, so you can make a stir at your office when you pull an iPad out of your chest a la Alien.

Keep your greasy fingers off of your pretty iPad screen with the Pogo Sketch stylus. Take notes in meetings, sketch out some product ideas and sign documents, no fingertips required. It doesn't take up any more room than a regular pen, so you shouldn't have trouble making space in your pocket protector.

This may be a case, but it's also a Bluetooth keyboard packed into a design that turns your iPad into a mini laptop for a lot cheaper than buying a full size MacBook. It isn't due out until this fall, but the advance information shows that it matches the slim and shiny look of the iPad.

The iPad has the potential to be both the navigator and music system in your car. Finding a place to put it is another matter. Scosche has released a teaser video about the upcoming iKit, a dash mount solution for the iPad. It pretty much replaces your existing stereo. Try to refrain from typing up business reports while you drive.

While Apple cedes much of the accessories market for its devices to third parties, the company does have quite a head start when it comes to developing its own add-ons -- and the same is true for the iPad. No compatibility worries here. The keyboard dock and camera connection kit both make sense for extending the comfort and capabilities of the tablet.

You don't have to take up a lot of precious screen space to type when you have a keyboard dock. The keyboard looks a lot like a regular Apple keyboard, so it doesn't have the glossy jet black facade that the iPad has. It is decently compact and can be hooked up to a computer or an outlet for charging purposes.

Price: $29

With such a big screen compared to the iPhone, it's only natural that you would want to use it to show off photos. Make it a little easier on yourself and upload them directly with this kit. You choose whether to hook up your camera through the USB adapter or transfer by SD card with the SD card adapter.
